Brian O’Neal Wofford, a Clemson University honor graduate and stellar football/track star of Spartanburg High School, received numerous accolades and awards in recognition of his athletic achievements. He was a High School All-American wide receiver at Spartanburg High School and an all-time leading receiver at Clemson University. While at Clemson University, Brian excelled academically as a student athlete and named a Clemson University Scholar. He was also a prominent member of the Kappa Lambda Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Brian began his career with Florence County Parks and Recreation and subsequently joined the City of Spartanburg Parks and Recreation as Superintendent. Brian’s passion for his hometown was evident, as was his professionalism.
Brian was tragically taken away from us on May 18, 2012 due to a motorcycle accident. In his memory, the Kaelyn Wofford Scholarship Fund was established to create an opportunity for Brian’s daughter, Kaelyn Wofford, to pursue higher learning through means of a post secondary education. The Fund’s premier campaign is the 2.5 Initiative. The 2.5 is a derivative of the number 25 worn by Brian. The 2 serves as a reminder to look twice to save a motorcyclist’s life and the 5 correlates with the 5 fun-filled activities and motorcycle awareness the partnership has planned for the week. It is the mission of the 2.5 Initiative to promote motorcycle awareness and education in the community with the goal of improving motorcycle safety.
